Reflection

Reflection

by Justin Mason on Monday, December 30, 2010 at 1:29pm

A confusing understanding of an image,

with the eyes you can see,

but so blind you can be,

depicting in your mind,

so clear so perplexed,

with the answer so near to affect,

the being,

what you are seeing can be so misleading,

understanding can be so relieving,

perceiving the apparent, appearance of reflection,

can be deceiving.

Notes- With poetry, some people can read into its depths, some people relate in other ways, I processed the piece in afterthought, if it has touched you in a way of contemplation- that was the goal.

  1. Perception is so much a part of our individual, which in turn could be defined as the subjective. That which makes us different are the abilities of conceptual thought and various truths which go beyond fact.

I find the last part interesting. Perceiving the apparent, appearance of reflection can be deceiving. This sounds like an appeal against ego, but yet, it can been seen as an overreaching super-philosophy as well. All art and in fact all material items can been seen and are seen as a communication. What that communication is though is a reflection of our subjective self.

To add to all of this, we are three different people at one time and our job, the thing that makes this all interesting and difficult, is the attempt to reconcile those three different beings. There is who we think we are, who other people think we are, and then who we really are.

    Thanks for the post!
